Excursions

Chiave di Arco programs allow for the in-depth exploration of the very roots of Western painterly traditions with chartered bus trips to cities such as Florence, Naples, Rome, Arezzo, Sansepolcro, Urbino, Assisi, Perugia and Bologna. The local bus allows for daily excursions to Siena, 8 kilometers away. These essential encounters deepen an artist’s roots in the great traditions of Western art, extending and strengthening visual, technical and pictorial comprehension and helping to define the link with contemporary figurative directions. Trips are preceded by faculty talks and orientation to assist participants in maximizing these opportunities. Though they are optional group trips which vary with each Chiave di Arco program, they are not mandatory nor guided tours, thus giving each participant the flexibility to choose which sites to visit on each day. Scheduled round-trip transportation by chartered bus is therefore provided, while participants are responsible for museum tickets and meals on trip days. Orvieto, Spoleto and other nearby cultural treasures are easily reached for day trips organized by student initiative. The Chiave di Arco and Reception staff at the Certosa are available and committed to helping guests plan additional outings that will further advance exposure to Italian culture in places such as Venice, Ravenna, Padua, Parma, Turin, Genoa and Sicily.
